Role responsibilities 

  • Set up and maintain character (humans & animals) rigs and systems
  • Set up skinning/paint weight for clean deformation of characters
  • Work with art team to develop models that meets technical requirements
  • Work with team directors and production to identify/prioritize tasks
  • Interacts with production, supervisors and team/peers in order to problem solve and share information related to show/assigned tasks.
  • Design and maintain artist-friendly tools and well thought out GUIs to streamline workflow/pipeline
  • Design and set up character dynamics (i.e. cloth, hair system)
  • Contribute to Facial and Body Rigs – setup and troubleshoot
  • Contribute to the evolution of the art pipeline by developing diverse technical solutions and develop new techniques and processes to further advance quality/realism
  • Collaborate with TDs in on-going facial and muscle simulation research
  • Provide technical direction on models, so that by the time a model reaches the rigging phase it meets the technical requirements needed for the highest level of rigging and skinning.
  • Work closely with Animators to develop rigs that will allow animators the full range of motion and acting that is called for by the story, as well as, a logical and easy to use control structure
  • Communicate needs for custom tools, scripts, etc, to Asset Supervisor, other Riggers, and TD’s. Assist in the planning and design, as well as developing the tools and scripts as needed.
  • Provide and maintain technical documentation.



  • 3-5 years’ production experience in 3D CGI for Digital Animation, VFX or CG Characters/Creatures in game or TV/Film and VFX fields
  • Excellent knowledge of Maya, with a strong understanding of the dependency graph, utility nodes, and the use of expressions.
  • Comfortable working on an episodic television schedule
  • Strong understanding of human and animal form and bio-mechanics and facial anatomy
  • Strong understanding of animation and modeling workflows
  • A general understanding of the principles of animation. Must be able to think like an animator when considering how rigs will move. Prior animation experience is a plus.
  • Experience with in-depth knowledge of character/prop rigging technique and principles with the ability to optimize performance of rigs
  • Advanced hero character rigging experience with a Maya based pipeline
  • Experience with python or other scripting language desirable
  • Experience with adopting production pipelines and make improvements that respect guidelines and system requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to find pragmatic solutions
  • Proven ability to be self-sufficient and take initiative to seek answers and address issues
  • Must be able to decipher as well as follow through on work in progress, dailies, briefings/notes and feedback.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently on rigging projects.
  • Effective communication skills
